The new rate on Treasury Series I inflation-linked savings bonds is likely to be set at 6.5% for bonds purchased starting in November, down from the current rate of 9.6%, Barron’s estimates.

The new rate, which will be announced by the Treasury in early November, is based on the change in consumer prices from March through September. The inflation rate shown in the September CPI report released Thursday morning is the final data point used in the calculation.
