El Señor de los Cielos isn’t going anywhere. It’s coming back for an even higher-stakes play. Telemundo announced that the hit Super Series will return for a milestone tenth season with Rafael Amaya reprising his iconic role as Aurelio Casillas.
The Emmy Award-winning franchise continues to prove its staying power as Spanish-language television’s longest running scripted series since its 2013 debut.
“Rafael Amaya’s return as Aurelio Casillas is a powerful moment for this franchise,” says Javier Pons, Chief Content Officer and Head of Telemundo Studios. “Reaching a tenth season is an extraordinary achievement and having Rafa lead this chapter allows us to honor the legacy that made El Señor de los Cielos a global phenomenon while continuing to deliver bold, premium storytelling to our audiences.”
The announcement reinforces Telemundo’s commitment to its Super Series strategy, which has reshaped the network’s programming and delivered consistent hits. The Señor de los Cielos franchise remains a cornerstone of that approach, spawning the hit Dinastía Casillas, currently airing weeknights on Telemundo. The spinoff ranked as the top program in its time slot among adults 18-49 during its first month on air, according to Nielsen data.

El Señor de los Cielos Returns to its Roots
Season 10 takes Aurelio back to his origins, with the storyline exploring a man who can conquer empires but struggles with self-control. After vanishing from his family’s radar, Aurelio resurfaces to reclaim power and seek revenge. But his actions lead him to betray his own blood and trigger the downfall of everything he built.
Amaya will also take on a new role in the upcoming season. He will also serve as executive producer for the first time. For the actor, playing Aurelio Casillas has defined his career.
“Aurelio Casillas is the most iconic role of my career, and returning for this milestone season allows us to continue expanding his legacy,” he said. “I’m proud to once again collaborate with Telemundo to continue telling this story for the audience that has been with us from the beginning.”

With El Señor de los Cielos entering its tenth season and Dinastía Casillas delivering strong numbers, the network is capitalizing on one of its most valuable assets.
Production on Season 10 is scheduled to begin later this year. Telemundo Studios will produce the series.
