Qatar Airways is the first airline to land on Fortnite, letting millions of gamers explore Qatar.
Qatar Airways
Qatar Airways has entered one of the world’s biggest gaming platforms with the launch of QVerse Island in Fortnite. The new digital world lets players explore Doha’s most iconic landmarks, interact with the airline’s signature cabin products, and take part in mission-based challenges. Visitors will be guided by Sama, Qatar Airways’ AI-powered digital cabin crew, who has won many hearts on Instagram.
The decision to join the world of Fortnite, created by Epic Games, is part of the airline’s “digital-first strategy” designed to reach travellers long before they begin planning a trip. With Fortnite’s large global audience, Qatar Airways is joining a platform where millions of younger travellers already spend many hours each week.
Fortnite: A Massive Global Stage For Brand Storytelling
Epic Games launched Fortnite in 2017, and it has since grown into a blockbuster digital universe known for its user-generated worlds and special events.
It remains one of the world’s most popular online environments with 650 million registered players globally by 2025 and around 1.3–1.5 million active players daily. Fortnite players spend between 6 to 10 hours in the game every week.
These numbers make Fortnite a powerful platform for global brands, especially those targeting younger demographics. International fashion and sports brands have explored metaverse-style launches on the platform. Several have built their own islands in Fortnite, including Nike with a highly-stylized Airphoria island, Havaianas, which created a giant flip-flop island for a summer campaign, and Hellmann’s, which launched a themed food-collection arena.

Qatar Airways is the first airline to join Fortnite—stretching the game’s branding borders beyond fashion, food, and entertainment to travel. The airline uses Fortnite both as a brand storytelling platform and as a tourism gateway, promoting its services as well as its fast-growing hub city, Doha, allowing gamers to explore at their whim.
With millions of players exploring custom islands daily, the airline gains exposure to a younger, highly engaged audience. For many, this will be their first-ever “visit” to Doha, experienced through a virtual environment that mirrors real-world landmarks.
Qatar Airways Used Unreal Editor For Fortnite To Design QVerse Island
Epic Games maintains an open ecosystem for Fortnite, which fosters creativity. Its Unreal Editor for Fortnite—a toolkit built on Unreal Engine—allows developers, individual creators, and brands to create custom “islands” as open, interactive spaces within the Fortnite universe.

Qatar Airways used this open-creation platform to build QVerse Island, taking advantage of UEFN’s high-fidelity graphics, multiplayer support, and open-source-aligned development environment. The technology allowed the airline to recreate Doha landmarks and its own aircraft interiors in remarkable detail.
What Players Will See On QVerse Island On Fortnite
The QVerse Island tour begins at a virtual Hamad International Airport, complete with Qatar Airways branding and a digital version of Sama as the in-world guide. Players can explore Qsuite, the airline’s unique multi-passenger business-class suite that accommodates groups of four seated together. They can also visit the ORCHARD, Hamad International Airport’s luxury retail and dining space, the National Museum of Qatar and the West Bay skyline, recreated using Fortnite’s advanced modeling tools.

The airline has designed interactive challenges for gamers set across Doha’s major attractions. Sama, who also works for the airline as a booking guide and as an Instagram influencer, guides players through missions around the island, combining virtual sightseeing with puzzle-solving and exploration.
Unlike her nearly too true-to-life appearance on Instagram, Sama’s appearance on Fortnite aligns with the game’s aesthetics.
Win Real Flights: The 13 December Global Treasure Hunt On Fortnite
Special events are key to drawing crowds in Fortnite, sometimes tripling the game’s user numbers.
To celebrate the launch of QVerse Island, Qatar Airways is inviting players to join a global event on December 13, 2025. Gamers can team up with well-known content creators in a hunt for “golden tickets,” hidden across the island. Finding one gives players a chance to win real Qatar Airways flight tickets, turning their virtual adventures into physical travel opportunities.

This type of gaming-to-rewards crossover is rare in the airline industry. Still, Qatar Airways aims to connect entertainment and gaming with digital engagement across various channels and convert them into actual travel.
Gaming At 35,000 feet: Qatar Airways’ Inflight Revolution
QVerse Island is not the airline’s only gaming innovation. In May this year, Qatar Airways made headlines for hosting the world’s first in-flight gaming competition, called Gaming in the Sky.
During a flight from Doha to London, the cabin transformed into a flying e-sports arena where teams — including well-known gaming influencers — competed live using the airline’s Starlink-powered high-speed WiFi. The event was streamed on social media, allowing audiences worldwide to watch the action from 35,000 feet.
Starlink Is Powering A New Generation Of Entertainment And Productivity Onboard
Compared to other airline WiFi services that rely on satellites in higher orbits, Starlink’s Low-Earth Orbit satellite constellation significantly reduces latency, which made Qatar Airways’ live in-flight gaming event possible.
With speeds comparable to at-home fibre broadband, passengers can stream 4K video, watch live sports, play multiplayer online games, run real-time video calls or join e-sports competitions in-flight.
The airline further proved the speed and agility of its Starlink in-flight connectivity by hosting a “Sky Studio Challenge” inviting two influential AI film-makers—PJ Accetturo and Torey Kohara— to “generate, render, edit, and publish full AI-produced”commercials during a 15-hour flight from Doha to Atlanta. The challenge was arranged in collaboration with Google, with the film makers using the Gemini’s video and image AI generation models.
Qatar Airways and Google challenged two AI-film makers to produce full commercials during a 15-hour flight, using Google’s latest Gemini video and image AI generation models, powered by the airline’s high-speed, Starlink in-flight WiFi.
Qatar Airways
Since introducing Starlink, Qatar Airways has equipped nearly 120 of its widebody aircraft with the service, offering fast, free WiFi across all cabins.
The airline plans to extend Starlink to more aircraft, transforming in-flight connectivity into an entertainment platform and a productivity tool.
The fast WiFi service aligns with the airline’s push toward digital engagement through QVerse, Sama, and now Fortnite.
Why Qatar Airways’ Fortnite Gaming Strategy Is A Digital Winner
Across both air and ground, Qatar Airways is building a cohesive digital ecosystem designed for the next generation of travellers. Gen-Z and younger millennials spend significant time in digital worlds. The airline is meeting younger audiences wherever they spend their time and building connections.
QVerse Island introduces players to Doha’s architecture, culture, and airline experience in a fun, memorable way, which could influence real-world travel decisions.

Sama is the AI-powered queen of it all, now present on the airline’s web platform QVerse, QVerse Island in Fortnite, and in experiential marketing and brand storytelling through her ‘personal’ Instagram.
Whether passengers first meet Qatar Airways through Sama’s Insta appeal, in a virtual world, or on a real-world flight, the airline wants them to feel connected and inspired.
Other airlines understand that air travel inspiration starts long before take-off, but Qatar Airways is the first to meet future flyers inside the virtual world of Fortnite.
