Ansu Fati could join Ousmane Dembele at Paris Saint-Germain by leaving FC Barcelona this summer.
Paris Saint-Germain are preparing an offer for FC Barcelona star Ansu Fati to join Ousmane Dembele in the French capital on the orders of their head coach Luis Enrique according to AS.
Considering their economic woes which have them struggling to buy and register new players while successfully navigating Financial Fair Play Limits, the Catalans might be tempted to accept a reasonable offer for the La Masia pearl after putting him on the market at the end of last season.
This development would have seemed unthinkable at the turn of the decade when Fati broke through to the first team as a 16-year-old and smashed a number of youngest goalscorer and appearance maker records both for his club and in elite competitions such as the Champions League.
In 2021, Fati penned a lengthy contract extension that came with a €1 billion ($1.1 billion) release clause and inherited Lionel Messi’s iconic number 10 shirt following the Argentine’s departure to PSG.
Two years on, the Guinea-born sensation once thought of as the future of the club could mimic the seven-time’s Ballon d’Or winner’s trajectory.
Things weren’t meant to pan out like this, yet Fati’s progress has been held back by cruel injuries that have often had him spend more time on the operating table or resting up than on the pitch.
While 2022/2023 remained relatively knock free for Fati, Xavi Hernandez seldom used him in favor of a four-man midfield system that placed Gavi as a false left winger in Fati’s preferred area of the pitch.
As a La Liga-winning campaign drew to a close in the spring, it was widely reported by outlets including SPORT that Fati had been put up for sale with fellow underperforming Spain international Ferran Torres.
Thus far, however, there have been no worthwhile bids incoming for the 20-year-old, whose offloading would represent much welcomed pure profit for the Blaugrana.
Fati is reportedly a PSG transfer request from his ex-La Roja boss Luis Enrique, who took the youngster to his first World Cup in Qatar in the winter.
With PSG’s owners hailing from the same Middle Eastern state, putting up the money for Fati that would tempt Barca into making a sale should be pretty much straightforward.
If a deal were to be completed right away, he would follow teammate Ousmane Dembele out of the exit door to the French capital as a €50 million ($55 million) switch is waiting to be finalized for ‘The Mosquito’.
Selling Dembele and Fati, plus Franck Kessie, will give Barca required financial breathing space.
It could also mean that in addition to registering new signings such as Ilkay Gundogan, Barca could launch an operation to land his former Manchester City colleague Bernardo Silva as Vitor Roque arrives from Atletico Paranaense now as opposed to January 2024.
As previously explained by AS correspondent Javi Miguel, however, it is thought that the Brazilians will only consider Vitor Roque leaving them before the end of the South American season if they are eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.
On Tuesday evening in Curitiba, Athletico-PR attempt to overturn a 3-1 deficit against Bolivar in their last 16 second leg clash.
