It was hardly a shock when Gonzaga was given the tourney’s top overall seed.

After finishing as the event’s runner-up last year, the Bulldogs bounced back with a 26-3 run through the regular season and WCC Tournament. They are KenPom.com’s No. 1 overall team, boasting the nation’s No. 3 adjusted offense and No. 7 adjusted defense.

Gonzaga is now the favorite to cut down the final set of nets in New Orleans next month. The team has odds of +380—meaning one would return $3.80 for each $1 wagered—of navigating through the West region and winning the national championship at the Final Four’s conclusion.

Arizona, Kansas and Baylor round out the set of No. 1 seeds in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Arizona had one of the best runs of any leading up to March Madness. The Wildcats come into the NCAA Tournament with 31 wins already under their belt—and just three losses—after claiming both the Pac-12 regular season and tourney titles.

At +600, only the ‘Zags have shorter odds of winning a national title. Arizona will be tough to stop starting from their perch atop the South region. KenPom has the program rated No. 2 overall with the fifth-strongest adjusted offense college in basketball.

Kansas had a similarly strong lead-up to the Big Dance. The Jayhawks earned a share of the Big 12 regular season title before going on to dominate the conference tournament.

With +1200 odds to win the program’s fourth NCAA Tournament championship and first since 2008, KU has a real shot at making a Final Four push as the Midwest region’s top seed.

Baylor was arguably the committee’s most controversial No. 1 seed choice. The Bears had a fantastic regular season—going 26-5 with wins over ranked Villanova, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas twice—but were stunned in their Big 12 tournament opener by Oklahoma.

That loss didn’t hurt the reigning NCAA Tournament champions much on Selection Sunday, as they still ended up topping the East region and have +1100 odds to defend their title, the fourth best in the field.

Here’s a look at the Final Four and championship odds for each of the top contenders in the March Madness field. You can also find each team’s 2022 NCAA Tournament odds.

While earning a top seed is obviously beneficial for a team to have a successful March Madness run, there was only occasion (2008) where each No. 1 reached the Final Four and just five times where three No. 1’s won their respective regions since the NCAA Tournament’s current format was adopted in 1985.

There will likely be no shortage of upsets during this year’s Big Dance, with plenty of feisty underdogs lurking in the 68-team field.
