The evidence will be transported onto a Coast Guard cutter somewhere in the United States where the Marine Board of Investigation will then do further analysis and testing, according to a news release.
Wednesday morning, debris from the Titan submersible was returned to the Canadian port of St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, where officials will examine pieces of the vessel to aid in its investigation of the implosion that killed five people on board.
Evidence will continue to be collected and witnesses to be interviewed ahead of a public hearing about the incident, the Coast Guard said.

“The evidence will provide investigators from several international jurisdictions with critical insights into the cause of this tragedy. There is still a substantial amount of work to be done to understand the factors that led to the catastrophic loss of the TITAN and help ensure a similar tragedy does not occur again,” MBI Chair Captain Jason Neubauer said in the release.

The Titan submersible first went missing on June 18, triggering a search by the Coast Guard that lasted for about five days. Less than a week ago, the Coast Guard District Northeast announced a debris field containing external parts of the Titan submersible had been discovered in an area near the wreck of the Titanic.
