U.S. President Donald Trump is urging the House of Representatives to move quickly on the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, following the bill’s bipartisan approval in the Senate earlier this week.
“The House will hopefully move LIGHTNING FAST, and pass a ‘clean’ GENIUS Act,” President Trump posted on Truth Social. “Get it to my desk, ASAP — NO DELAYS, NO ADD ONS.”
The GENIUS Act establishes a long-awaited regulatory framework for dollar-pegged stablecoins, a core part of Trump’s pro-crypto policy agenda. The legislation includes:
Full backing requirements for stablecoins using U.S. dollars or highly liquid assets
Annual audit mandates for issuers with market capitalizations exceeding a designated threshold
Enhanced compliance and transparency standards to legitimize stablecoin operations within U.S. financial systems
Historic Senate Passage Sets the Stage
The Senate passed the GENIUS Act on Tuesday with bipartisan support, marking a major milestone for crypto legislation in the U.S. If approved by the House and signed into law, the bill would represent the first comprehensive federal regulation targeting the stablecoin sector.
Trump’s public call adds political pressure on House lawmakers to avoid alterations or delays that could slow the final signing process. His administration has increasingly framed crypto policy, especially surrounding stablecoins and blockchain innovation, as essential to maintaining U.S. financial leadership.
The GENIUS Act now enters a critical phase as the House prepares to either take up the Senate’s version or push forward a modified counterpart advanced by the House Financial Services Committee in April.
