Key Facts
The six numbers drawn on Wednesday night were 6, 28, 44, 48, 58 and Red Powerball 23.
If a winner emerges in the next draw, they will have a choice between taking the $512 million prize spread across 30 annual installments or a lump sum cash prize of $239.1 million—the preferred option for most winners.
If the cash payout is chosen, the winnings will first drop to $181.7 million after a mandatory federal withholding of 24% is applied.
The winner would likely face a federal marginal rate as high as 37%, depending on their taxable income, further reducing the winnings to around $150.6 million.
If they decide to go with the installment route, the winner’s annual payments of around $17.1 million will drop to around $10.7 million after the 37% federal marginal rate is applied.
Depending on their home state, the winner could face additional taxes, as some states, such as New York, tax lottery winnings at 10.9%, while others, such as Texas, Florida, and California, don’t.
What To Watch For
The next drawing for the Powerball jackpot is set to take place on Wednesday night. The Mega Millions lottery will hold a drawing on Tuesday night for a jackpot that has now risen to $900 million.
