FC Barcelona midfielder Pedri made a kind gesture towards teammate Ansu Fati at the team’s bus parade on Monday evening which has pleased fans worldwide plus the media.
On an open top bus with “champions” written across it in various places, the Blaugrana left from their Camp Nou stadium and headed through Barcelona city center to the Arc de Triomf to thank fans for their support this season.
It is one that will end with Barca as Spanish Super Cup and La Liga champions. The domestic top flight was sealed on Sunday by winning 4-2 away at Espanyol, and with the job now done, president Joan Laporta decided that the men’s and women’s teams should be sent out to greet the public.
The journey of under four miles took well over three hours as Barca were mobbed by idolising supporters on every street and avenue they headed down.
Yet it is just one small part of the journey that has perhaps attracted the most attention.
One of the main focuses of attention for Culers as a firm fan favorite, Pedri was regularly greeted with cheers of his name as commonplace on matchday at Camp Nou.
Knowing that his club and country teammate is in need of a lift, however, Pedri sneakily pointed to Ansu Fati and asked them to cheer the 20-year-old’s name instead with which they obliged.
“Pedri is great!,” remarked one fan in the comments section of a popular Twitter post from ESPN which shared footage of the incident.
“Imagine not liking Pedri,” balked another, as one more said “Pedri, what a guy”.
The Spanish press have also picked up on the gesture too, calling it “wonderful”, and “noble”.
It comes at a time when Fati’s future is up in the air. Ahead of next term, the youngster who came roaring out of the La Masia academy in 2019 but has had his progress blighted by constant injuries while featuring low down coach Xavi Hernandez’s pecking order could be sold.
SPORT reports that his agent Jorge Mendes has guaranteed Barca a €70 million ($76 million) offer for the Guinea-born sensation from the Premier
PINC
Yet with a contract until 2027, Fati is under no obligation to switch allegiances.
