Pedri has conceded an interview where he spoke on how life is at FC Barcelona under Xavi Hernandez at the moment and how it is to work alongside players such as Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi while looking back at the Blaugrana’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid in El Clasico last Sunday.
To La Vanguardia, the Spain international described Xavi as a coach “who transmits security to us in every moment because he knows what he wants to do with the team well, and the players we are understanding it perfectly.”
“We know that we have to control the game through possession and that’s what he wants the most,” Pedri revealed.
As per his first game behind enemy lines with a hostile home crowd in El Clasico, Pedri said he would “never forget” the way Barca played in 4-0 romp over Los Blancos on their own patch.
“We went really wanting to do well and we left very happy because it went how we wanted, but we were not expecting this result,” he confessed.
Pedri claimed he has a “very good relationship” with Ousmane Dembele and sometimes jokes about his future with the Frenchman considering is free to walk on June 30 and is being linked to Paris Saint Germain.
“It’s a decision he has to take,” Pedri added of the a “crazily good player”, who has “surprised me a lot”.
“You don’t know if he’ll go to the left or the right, he goes where he wants and it’s amazing to have him,” Pedri said.
Of Lionel Messi, with whom Pedri enjoyed just a season in the same team before the Argentine fled to PSG, the 19-year-old said: “With Leo I had a great time with him on the pitch and off it he’s a magnificent person who I hope can come back.”
“I always watch his games because you can learn a lot watching the best player in the world, but it’s true when things don’t go [well] for him – like a friend that I consider him – well it hurts a bit.”
Pedri is currently on international duty with his country and helped Spain achieve a 2-1 victory over Albania by providing the assist for Dani Olmo’s late winner while donning the number ’10’ shirt for the first time.
