‘Partner Track’ Is The Best New Netflix Series Since ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’

There’s just something so intriguing about a good legal drama. Not only does the viewer get a sneak peek into the inner workings of the law, but we also get to know those aiming to fight for justice, and it’s usually against all odds.

Netflix had a lot of success with its recent hit, The Lincoln Lawyer, which also centered around a lawyer fighting for justice as every obstacle was thrown his way. That series is a celebration of Los Angeles and centers around a murder mystery.

Though there isn’t a whodunnit with the new Netflix series Partner Track, there’s still plenty of drama. There’s also plenty of humor, making this more of a dram-com. The story is set against the skyscraper-filled backdrop of New York City at the prestigious but old-school law firm, Parsons Valentine.

The 10-episode series, based on the novel “Partner Track” by Helen Wan, will premiere on Netflix on August 26. It’s a roughly ten-hour binge, and there isn’t a dull moment as we follow Ingrid Yun (Arden Cho), an idealistic lawyer struggling with her goal of making partner at the elite law firm where she and her best friends work.

Is it more important to make it to the next level in their careers or follow their inner moral compass? Ingrid is forced to make many choices as she fights to climb the partner track, and the journey is filled with a multitude of challenges.

The pressure is really on her for a variety of reasons. Ingrid is a first-generation Korean American, the first lawyer in her family, and feels pressure from her parents. She’s also working in a law firm that is a notorious boys club.

She and her friends support one another as each battles numerous obstacles at work. Will they break through that glass ceiling on the path to becoming partners at the firm, or will they reassess what success means?

Amid the workplace drama, each faces the many challenges of falling in love and fitting a relationship into their busy and strategically-planned lives. There’s also the fantastic fashion with this series that makes it so much fun to watch.

Ingrid is surrounded by a dynamic cast of characters, including work colleague and love interest Jeff Murphy (Dominic Sherwood), as well as Nick Laren (Rob Heaps), who also falls in love with her making her life even more complicated than it already is.

There’s also her hard-as-nails boss Marty Adler (Matthew Rauch) and co-workers Dan Fallon (Nolan Gerard Funk) and Justin Coleman (Roby Attal). But at the center of her workplace world are her two best friends, Rachel Friedman (Alexandra Turshen) and Tyler Robinson (Bradley Gibson), who are also aiming to make partner. Each comes to realize that sometimes, even though you think you have it all figured out, it’s not an easy path to find out what you’re meant to do in life.

Georgia Lee, who serves as a co-showrunner and executive producer with Sarah Goldfinger, developed the series. Kim Shumway, Kristen Campo, Tony Hernandez (for JAX Media), and Julie Anne Robinson executive produce. Robinson, Kevin Berlandi, Tanya Wexler, Lily Mariye, and Adam Brooks each direct two episodes.

Partner Track is the perfect binge to wrap up summer! No spoilers, but it ends with a great cliffhanger, so there will likely be a second season!
