The Last Showgirl — a critically acclaimed drama starring Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis — is coming to Hulu next month.
Rated R, The Last Showgirl opened in theaters on Jan. 10 before debuting on premium video on demand on Feb. 18. The logline for The Last Showgirl reads, “A seasoned showgirl must plan for her future when her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run.”
The showgirl from the title is Anderson’s Shelly, who is heartbroken when she learns from her show’s producer, Steve (Dave Bautista), that the show she had dedicated her life to is soon coming to an end.
The film also stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Shelly’s best friend and fellow former showgirl Annette, Kiernan Shipka and Brenda Song as Shelly’s current colleagues Jodie and Mary-Ann, and Billie Lourd as Shelly’s estranged adult daughter, Hannah.
The Last Showgirl will begin streaming on Hulu on Friday, May 23, according to When to Stream, per the release of the streamer’s May calendar of offerings.
How Was Pamela Anderson’s ‘The Last Showgirl’ Received By Audiences And Critics?
The Last Showgirl made $4.5 million in domestic ticket sales and nearly $2 million internationally for a worldwide box office tall of $6.7 million. The Last Showgirl had a production budget of less than $2 million before prints and advertising, Variety reported.
The Last Showgirl won acclaim from Rotten Tomatoes critics, who collectively gave the film an 83% “fresh” rating based on 224 reviews.
The Critics Consensus for the film on RT reads, “A wistful showcase for Pamela Anderson in a refreshingly dramatic role, The Last Showgirl pays homage to the working class of Las Vegas with a superb collection of performances.”
In additon, The Last Showgirl earned a 72% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 500-plus verified user ratings.
The Last Showgirl also earned Anderson nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in Leading Role from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and Best Performance by a Female Actor In a Motion Picture – Drama from the Golden Globes. Anderson also was nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance by the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
Jamie Lee Curtis, meanwhile, earned nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in Supporting Role from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.
Directed by Gia Coppola, The Last Showgirl, starring Pamela Anderson and Jamie Lee Curtis, begins streaming on Hulu on May 23.
