Olivia Rodrigo’s Bestselling Vinyl May Surprise Her Fans

Olivia Rodrigo already has many, many hits to her name. She’s only released two albums so far, but both efforts have delivered massive smashes and topped charts around the world. While her own discography is filled with wins, one of her most surprising recent successes isn’t a self-written anthem, it’s a cover. That reinterpretation has earned the singer a coveted spot on a special ranking, as it quickly became a massive seller when it was released.

Rodrigo appears on the Official Charts Company’s list of the bestselling vinyl singles in the U.K. of the last 10 years, but not with a song many of her fans would expect. She sits at No. 25 on the tally with “Stick Season,” a cover of the same-named smash by Noah Kahan. Her rendition turned into a surprise winner, even without being a proper single.

The Grammy winner shared her take on the Americana/pop cut in October 2023. She recorded the song for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, but she didn’t do so in the typical studio. Instead, she performed the cut in Hollywood’s Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, CA. A video of the performance has racked up nearly 13 million views as of the time of writing, and the vinyl also sold incredibly well.

Kahan’s original version of “Stick Season” is also featured on the vinyl-only roster, and it’s ahead of Rodrigo’s. The folk-pop hit comes in at No. 13, landing just shy of the top 10.

Rodrigo doesn’t manage to land any of her own compositions among the 40 bestselling vinyl singles in the U.K. from the past decade. That’s a bit surprising, considering the success of tracks like “Drivers License,” “Good 4 U,” and “Vampire.”

The Official Charts Company also shared a rundown of the bestselling new vinyl albums of the past 10 years, and Rodrigo appears on that list twice. Her only two studio releases — Sour and Guts — sit right next to one another. Guts lands at No. 28, while Sour settles at No. 29.

The retrospective rankings were published to celebrate 10 years of the Official Vinyl Singles and Albums charts in the U.K. The format, which many once assumed was dead, has not only come back, it’s become a major moneymaker in the music industry. Younger fans in particular have driven the resurgence, and many of them love Rodrigo and her music.
