No Other Choice won big at the 46th Blue Dragon Awards, the South Korean awards ceremony that honors excellence in filmmaking. The film won four major awards, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor.
Park Chan-wook won the Best Director Award for his black comedy thriller, which is also South Korea’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. Park is the director of previous Oscar contender Decision To Leave, as well as The Handmaiden and Oldboy. He previously won a Best Director award for Decision To Leave, as well as winning a director award for Oldboy and a best film award for Lady Vengeance.
For the first time the top acting awards, as well as two popularity awards, were given to a married couple.
Hyun Bin won the Best Actor award for his role in the biographical period drama Harbin, in which he played General Ahn Jung-geun, an independence activist. Son Ye-jin won the Best Actress award for her role in No Other Choice. In that film Son played Lee Byung-hun’s wife. Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin, who starred together in Crash Landing On You, mentioned each other and their son in their heartfelt acceptance speeches.

Lee Sung-min (Reborn Rich) won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in No Other Choice, while the Best Supporting Actress award went to Park Ji-hyun (Forbidden Fairytale, Reborn Rich) for the erotic mystery thriller Hidden Face.
Ahn Bo-hyun (Yumi’s Cells, My Name) received a Best New Actor award for his role in the romantic comedy, Pretty Crazy, which co-starred Lim Yoona. Kim Do-yeon (Be Melodramatic, My Boyfriend Is A Gumiho) won Best New Actress for Idiot Girls and School Ghost: School Anniversary.
The Best New Director award went to Kim Hye-young (Way Back Love) for It’s Okay.
My Daughter is a Zombie won the Most Popular film award, while Harbin came in second. The Best Cinematography and Lighting Award was given to director Hong Kyung-pro and Park Jung-woo for Harbin.
Fans had the opportunity to vote for the year’s most popular actors. Winners of the popular star category are Park Jin-young (Hi-Five), Hyun Bin (Harbin), Son Ye-jin (No Other Choice) and Lim Yoona (Pretty Crazy).
The annual awards ceremony is presented by Sports Chosun.
