Rappers Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice claim the top spot on the Digital Song Sales chart this week with their joint single, “Princess Diana.” Originally belonging to Spice alone, the song was re-released as a remix featuring new vocals from Minaj. The new version of the song has become a massive hit and went straight to the top of the sales chart without any real competition.
According to Luminate, the company that powers the Billboard charts, “Princess Diana” sold just under 76,000 copies in its first week of availability, making it the top-selling tune in America this week by a significant margin. In fact, it outperformed its closest competitors by a mile.
“Princess Diana” outsold the next 13 bestselling songs in America this week combined. The group includes popular contemporary hits from Morgan Wallen (“Last Night,” 11,000 copies sold), Luke Combs (“Fast Car,” 8,500), and Miley Cyrus (“Flowers,” 7,200). Even brand new releases from stars like Post Malone (“Chemical,” 6,100) and Kelly Clarkson (“Me” at 5,600 and “Mine” at 5,100) could not match the popularity of “Princess Diana.”
“Princess Diana” did not face any serious threat when it came to reaching the top of the Digital Song Sales chart upon its arrival. The second best-selling song in the US this week is Wallen’s “Last Night,” which sold just over 11,000 copies in the prior tracking frame. “Princess Diana” outsold that runner-up more than six and a half times over.
“Princess Diana” marks Spice’s first No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, while Minaj has achieved this feat numerous times before. This latest win marks her fourteenth trip to the top spot and her second of 2023. She is now tied with several other stars for the second-most wins on the ranking, coming in behind Taylor Swift, who leads with 25.
