NewJeans Blows Past BTS’s Suga, Jimin, Jung Kook And J-Hope With Their New Hot 100 Smashes

Rising K-pop sensations NewJeans soar to the top of the Billboard 200 this week with their latest EP Get Up. The album’s ascent to the highest echelons of the chart, narrowly outshining the Barbie soundtrack, marks a pivotal moment in the band’s time together. NewJeans’s triumph is further highlighted by a rather remarkable feat on the Hot 100, where several of their songs have carved out space for themselves.

Three out of the six tracks from the EP appear on the Hot 100 chart this frame. While such a feat is not uncommon among Western superstars, it is a remarkable accomplishment for a South Korean act like NewJeans.

Among the tracks that have made their way onto the Hot 100, “Super Shy” has emerged as a standout, reaching a new peak of No. 48 this time around–their loftiest position to date. Additionally, “ETA” debuts at No. 81, while “Cool With You” arrives at No. 93.

NewJeans have now sent five smash hits to the Hot 100, Billboard’s weekly ranking of the most-consumed tracks in the U.S. Because of these two newest placements, the band ties with the legendary Psy for the third-most Hot 100 placements among South Korean musicians in history.

The five-member girl group now find themselves trailing only two other South Korean powerhouses. Leading the pack is BTS, who have secured a staggering 26 Hot 100 hits. Blackpink, another South Korean all-female act, has made their presence felt with nine appearances on the chart.

Before these two tracks arrived on the Hot 100, NewJeans were tied with BTS’s Jung Kook, as both acts had secured three charting tunes each. Jung Kook recenty upped his own count with his first solo No. 1, “Seven,” but NewJeans added more wins, so they pulled ahead.

Last week, fellow BTS singers J-Hope, Jimin and Suga, also known as Agust D, were all ahead of NewJeans, as they had all landed four tracks on the Hot 100 aside from their work with the septet. Until this frame, they all stood alongside one another as the South Korean musicians with the fourth-most Hot 100 smashes. But now, NewJeans have passed all of them, at least for the time being.
