Hard-working business innovator Daymond John has been known to say that he is “retired” because he’s doing what he loves – helping other people succeed. If that’s true, then this Shark Tank veteran makes taking it easy look like a lot of fun, as today April 25, 2023 iHeartMedia announced the launch of his new podcast That Moment with Daymond John, a part of iHeartMedia and Charlamagne tha God’s Black Effect Podcast Network.
Launching on May 2, and releasing a new episode each Tuesday thereafter, the man who founded the FUBU clothing line with the help of his mother, will talk with influential people around the world and get them to reflect on the moment that everything changed for them.
In the official trailer, now available HERE, Daymond says “What if I told you there was way more to the story behind game changing events?” and then shares a little bit of two interviews from the show. He’ll be joined by people like fellow Shark Tank judge Barbara Corcoran, rappers and entertainers Ice-T and Fat Joe, comedian JB Smoove, restaurateur and celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson and many more to come.
“Greatness starts with a single step,” Daymond says adding that his show is for entrepeneurs, and artists or “just someone seeking inspiration.” He is guaranteed to inspire you if you listen, by the way, as his relentless drive towards encouraging positive action will always provide actionable advice told in a humorous upbeat way.
Dollie S. Bishop, President of The Black Effect Podcast Network says that “fans can expect to take away valuable insights from each new episode.”
I had the chance to speak with Daymond before the launch about what fans can expect from the show. One of the first things I asked him was about how people can find these great moments for themselves, and he pointed towards Ice-T and reminded me that he was asked to stop being hard, but he never did. He wasn’t willing to sacrifice who he was for where he wanted to go. He didn’t focus on himself in our conversation, he focused on his guests like Fat Joe, who famously lost 88 pounds after seven of his friends died from heart attacks. “I think a lot of people can relate to Fat Joe,” he said, pivoting back to how we have to be able to find that moment for ourselves with a lot of self reflection.
I wanted to know how we could do that and Daymond told me “I’m a very public person and a lot of people ask me rather generic questions, but I try to focus on that specific moment like where you thought of a song and it brought you back to that feeling you had.”
Naturally, I wanted to know if he had a specific moment from the show he could share and he gave several.
Daymond John: Honestly there are so many moments, and that’s what’s so special about this series. I’m not asking the same questions that you hear on every other podcast. We go narrow and deep on these moments that completely transformed these people’s lives. Whether it’s Marcus Samuelsson revealing how he had to make the decision to sacrifice his relationship for his career, or Ice T getting honest about what it actually means to him to be “gangster” and what prompted him to stop committing crimes, or even Fat Joe sharing how his commitment to giving back to his community and his involvement in creating new opportunities for his community led to his sneaker stores being the only two in all of Manhattan that weren’t looted during a riot, I know you’ll be surprised to hear some of these never before heard stories and insights straight from these icons.”
“That Moment” is almost here and arrives May 2nd.
