Netflix has unveiled new details about the upcoming theatrical production, Stranger Things: The First Shadow, along with a cryptic tweet containing video footage that shows glimpses of scenes from the hit Netflix show that give way to a strange glowing red orb in an empty theater.
The First Shadow serves as a prequel to the show, and the tweet teases that details in the play could cast new light on the show’s fifth season.
“The Beginning Of The Stranger Things Story Might Hold The Key To What Comes Next” reads text at the end of the video.
The First Shadow will debut at London’s Phoenix Theater. The website of the theater house gives us these details on the plot:
Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.
Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end.
This sounds like fun. Stranger Things meets American Graffiti, all live on stage. Undoubtedly we’ll learn more about the villain introduced in Stranger Things 4, the diabolical Vecna who would have been just a boy in 1959. A boy with dark secrets.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow opens on November 17th. I doubt I’ll fly to London anytime soon to see it, but that’s not a problem. Tickets appear to be sold out for weeks. Then again, this might be a good excuse to make a business trip to the UK!
