Netflix Orders New Ted Danson Comedy From Creator Mike Schur

Ted Danson is returning to the world of scripted sitcoms. The former Cheers, Becker and The Good Place star will now headline an untitled comedy from Mike Schur (Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) about a retired man named Charles who gets a new lease on life when he answers an ad from a PI and becomes a mole in a secret investigation. Based on the Academy Award-nominated The Mole Agent, eight episodes have been ordered. The series comes from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Directed by Maite Alberdi, The Mole Agent received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature in 2021. It also was selected as the Chilean entry for Best International Feature Film, making the shortlist in the category.

Mike Schur and Morgan Sackett (Fremulon) and David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment) are the executive producers of the Ted Danson project. Maite Alberdi and Marcela Santibañez are the executive producers for Micromundo Producciones. And Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements are the executive producers for Motto Pictures.

In addition to Cheers, Becker and The Good Place, Ted Danson is an ongoing presence on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm. He has also had regularly scheduled roles in the sitcoms Ink, Help Me Help You, Bored to Death and Mr. Mayor; and has been equally present in dramas like Damages, Fargo, CSI and CSI: Cyber.
