Netflix Global Top 10:’Saiyaara’, ‘Dhadak 2’ Among 4 Indian Films

Four Indian films and one web show have made it to the latest weekly list of most-watched non-English content on Netflix. The Bollywood hit Saiyaara marks its third week on the list and the platform while Son of Sardaar 2 and Dhadak 2 made their debut this week.

Two new Bollywood films made their digital debut on Netflix this Friday and they have already made it the top global list of most-watched non-English films on Netflix. Meanwhile, Mohit Suri’s musical romantic film Saiyaara completes its third week on the platform and retained a slot on the global top 10 list for the third week in a row.

Mahavatar Narsimha

The Indian animation film Mahavatar Narsimha, which continues to woo the audience in Indian theatres, is now the fourth most-watched non-English film on Netflix for the week ending September 28. It recorded 6.6 million watch-hours and 3 million views on Netflix. It is also the most watched movie in Mauritius and India while it ranked among the top ten most watched films in seven countries.

Mahavatar Narsimha released online on September 19 and became the fifth most-watched non-English film on Netflix and the third most watched film online for the week in India, as per Ormax Media.

Debutant director Ashwin Kumar donned the director’s hat for Mahavatar Narsimha which is about two incarnations of the Hindu God, Vishnu – Varaha (boar) and Narsimha (lion-man). It is the first part of a proposed seven-part Mahavatar Cinematic Universe which will span across all the ten incarnations of Vishnu.

Son of Sardaar 2

Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar made its digital debut on Netflix this week and climbed up the charts soon. In three days since the Netflix release, it recorded 1.9 million views and 4.7 million watch-hours to become the fifth most watched non-English film on the platform worldwide. It also ranked among the top ten most watched movies in six countries across the globe.

Son of Sardaar is directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and features Devgn along with Kubbra Sait, Chunky Pandey, Mrunal Thakur, Mukul Dev, Ravi Kishan, and Neeru Bajwa. It had an average box office run when it released in theatres in August.

Son of Sardaar 2 is a sequel to the 2012 Hindi film Son of Sardaar. Son of Sardaar 2 received mostly negative reviews for being a comedy which does not even attempt to rise above slapstick comedy.

Saiyaara

Months after creating box office records, Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara continues to create magic online. In its third week on Netflix, the film registered 1.5 million views and 3.7 million watch hours to become the seventh most-watched non-English film on the platform. It made its digital debut as the most-watched non-English film and slid down one position the next week. For the two weeks since its digital debut, Saiyaara has also been on top of Ormax Media’s list of most-watched films online in India.

Saiyaara stars debutant Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda in a story that revolves around artists and their love. When it released in theatres in July, Saiyaara managed to rank among the global top ten scorers for two consecutive weekends.

Dhadak 2

Shazia Iqbal’s Dhadak 2 recorded 1.3 million views and 3.2 million watch hours to become the ninth most-watched non-English film on Netflix in just three days on the platform. It also ranked the top ten most watched movies in six countries across the globe.

Ba***ds of Bollywood

Aaryan Khan’s directorial debut Ba***ds of Bollywood released last week and was the fourth most-watched show on Netflix. This week, it recorded 3.2 million views and 16.9 million watch-hours to retain the fourth slot on the list.

Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aaryan Khan stars Lakshya, Mona Singh, Bobby Deol, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Rajat Bedi and Gautami Kapoor.
