Netflix Drops Trailer For ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2

has released the trailer for the upcoming Season Two revealing the new love story to unfold in the next eight episodes. Season One of the Netflix and Shondaland series, created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Van Dusen, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers, was Netflix’s biggest hit, with a record-breaking 82 million households worldwide watching the series in the first month of its release, after December 25, 2020. Bridgerton remains the most popular show on the streaming platform to this day.

Judging by the trailer, Season Two of Bridgerton is sure to hit a record number of viewers again, with its exciting new storyline, featuring Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley as the star couple of the season.

Based on Julia Quinn’s The Viscount Who Loved Me, Season Two focuses on Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, the oldest of the Bridgerton siblings and head of the family. As the trailer shows, it is his mother, Lady Violet Bridgerton, played by Ruth Gemmell, who announces to the Ton’s eager young women that her son intends to find a wife this season. But, as the Viscount insists, it is only out of duty for his family that he is considering marriage. He thus does not intend on falling in love, but rather aims to find his bride using his brain, and not his heart. Lady Bridgerton, however, would rather her son marry for love, as she did with her late husband. The trailer shows Anthony will have to confront the death of his father.

The trailer introduces two new characters: the sisters Kate, played by Simone Ashley, and Edwina Sharma, played by Charithra Chandran. The Sharmas have just arrived in London from India. The sisters are introduced into society by the great Lady Danbury, played by Adjoa Andoh. It is Edwina who is looking for a husband, but as Lady Whistledown explains, any suitors for Edwina will have to go through her sister first. When Kate learns that the Viscount is not looking for a love match, she’ll do everything in her power to stop him from courting her sister. But as the trailer suggests, and fans of Julia Quinn’s bestselling books will already know, Kate herself may become attracted to the Viscount. In a playful scene depicted in the trailer, Anthony brushes Kate’s hand before falling into a river. He emerges from the water, much like Colin Firth’s Mr Darcy in the BBC Pride and Prejudice series, his shirt drenched. Kate clearly can’t keep her eyes off him, even after reprimanding her sister Edwina for staring.

The trailer promises more furtive glances, scandal, steamy scenes of desire, a love triangle, a competitive game of crochet, and potential danger for Lady Whistledown, a.k.a. Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) as revealed at the end of Season One. Fans of the show are already praising the choice of casting, and the evident chemistry between Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey, who play Kate and Anthony.

Plenty of familiar faces will return for this second season, including Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), as she makes her debut in society, much to her dismay. Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) returns, but will he ever notice Penelope Featherington. Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) is still searching for the identity of Lady Whistledown, as she chooses the new diamond of the season. As previously announced, the Duke of Hastings, played by Regé-Jean Page, who married Daphne Bridgerton in Season One, does not appear in this new season. Phoebe Dynevor’s character, on the contrary, does. Daphne will be there to help her brother, Anthony, choose his bride wisely.

The exciting new season is coming to Netflix on March 25.
