Recently, the original arrest warrant of Nelson Mandela was sold as a Non-Fungible Token. Notably, the crypto token has been sold for a whopping $130,000. The collectable has been sold in an auction aimed to fund a heritage site that documents South Africa’s struggle for democracy.

Why is Nelson Mandela’s NFT worthy?

Before becoming South Africa’s first black president, Nelson Mandela was part of a political enterprise (African countrywide congress – ANC). He became a leader of Johannesburg’s teenager’s department and later deputy national president. 

The birthday celebration’s purpose was to fight in opposition to white supremacy and racial segregation. However, Nelson helped arrange a paramilitary department of the ANC to interact in guerrilla battle after a bloodbath of black demonstrators in 1960. 

He was first arrested for treason in 1961, earlier than he was launched, and imprisoned again in 1962 for leaving the USA without a permit and inciting workers to strike. He spent the next almost 30 years of his existence in prison and was launched on February 11, 1990. 

Fast-forward to March 2022, and his legacy remains in a digitalized form. A document from Bloomberg informed that his outstanding arrest warrant became offered as a non-fungible token at an auction for 1. Nine million rands which are approximately $130k, to help fund a heritage website that indicates the country’s struggles for democracy.
