Topline
All 329 medal events in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics will be livestreamed on Peacock, NBCUniversal announced Thursday, as the media company shifts toward live coverage of the competition after primetime ratings plummeted during the Tokyo Olympics.
Key Facts
Peacock will feature all sports and events in addition to replays and exclusive programming, according to a release Thursday, and NBC’s broadcast network will air at least nine hours of daytime coverage—more than any previous Olympics, according to the network—and a primetime show that will recap the day’s events.
A decision by NBCUniversal to expand its live coverage of the Olympics follows criticism of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, after only some events were broadcast live on Peacock while others were blocked by commercials or spread across the company’s cable networks.
Primetime viewership for the Tokyo Olympics averaged 15.5 million viewers—the lowest since 2000—and had a total TV viewership of 150 million, also the lowest since 2000.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
