Music Mogul And Forbes 30 Under 30 Lister Was 31

Music and entertainment mogul known for his innovative online music platform SBUK has died at the age of 31.

Edwards, born in Luton in 1990, was raised in West London. He is credited for helping launch the careers of many household names in music including Ed Sheeran, Dave, Skepta, Headie One, Rita Ora, JME, and Stormzy. SBUK has developed to now have 1.22 million subscribers on YouTube alone. He made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2016.

Receiving an MBE for his services to music in 2013 at the age of 23, Edwards also set up JE Delve, a grassroots youth charity to help young people garner opportunities to learn, work and develop in different industries.

Edward’s company confirmed his death to the BBC on Sunday. No details surrounding his passing have been given.

Tributes have poured in across social media from institutions, sports stars, artists, celebrities and the general public in droves for the influential entrepreneur.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, wrote: “British music and entertainment has lost one of its brightest stars. My thoughts are with Jamal’s loved ones at this terribly sad time.”

Dua Lipa wrote on Instagram: “Heartbroken to hear this news. RIP Jamal. My thoughts are with all his friends and family and the many people’s lives he has touched and brought together. Gone way too soon.”

Edward’s favorite soccer team Chelsea FC also paid tribute. The club said: “We’re deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jamal Edwards. An inspiration to many, we’re honoured that he was part of our Chelsea family.”

A self-made entrepreneur who turned a fledgling music idea into a multi-million dollar company from a West London Estate, and consistently thought of others above himself in, at the very least, his professional and philanthropic pursuits, he will be truly missed.
