Topline
Multiple people were killed by a gunman at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia on Tuesday night, local police said, in an incident which comes just three days after another high profile mass shooting incident which left five dead at an LGBTQ club in Colorado.
Key Facts
An exact count of the number of people killed in the incident was not revealed but Chesapeake police spokesperson Leo Kosinski told the press the number was “less than 10, right now.”
Police believe there was one shooter who was dead by the time they arrived on the scene but Kosinski could not confirm if the shooter had taken their own life.
After arriving at the scene, police found “multiple fatalities” and several injured people at the store.
The total number of injured people remains unclear but according to the Associated Press at least five people were being treated at the nearby Norfolk General Hospital.
Sen. Mike Warner (D-Va.) on Twitter said he was “sickened by reports of yet another mass shooting” and added that he will be closely monitoring the situation.
This is a developing story.
