Hogwarts Legacy is a wonderful new roleplaying game set in the Harry Potter universe that let’s you explore the wizarding school, Hogwarts, and the surrounding villages and grounds. The Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade and much more are all available to adventure in.
But you’ll mostly do all that adventuring alone. As my colleague Paul Tassi pointed out recently, it would have been nice to at least have some kind of party mechanic similar to Mass Effect or Dragon Age that allowed you to bring companions with you on quests.
It also would be fun to play the game with real friends, wandering the halls of Hogwarts, mixing up potions and taking down dark sorcerers with online companions. Well, just like magic, this may be a reality soon enough—though not officially.
Yesterday, modder Yamashi (who helped create the marvelous Skyrim Together mod that allows you to go questing in Skyrim with online friends) announced a new Hogwarts Legacy mod called HogWarp on their Patreon. The mod is in very early stages and is only available for players on PC. It looks quite impressive already.
Here’s some early footage of the mod in action:
The current HogWarp build is only available to Yamashi’s Patreon subscribers at the High Otter ($21/month) and King Otter ($51.50/month) tiers. When it is finalized, it will be available to everyone free of charge. When that actually happens is anyone’s guess. As with any ambitious modding project (like many full-fledged game design projects) there’s no guarantee it will ever be completed. Then again, it’s already underway within days of the game’s launch. Not too shabby!
