Monster Nvidia (NVDA) insider trading alert

Though insider trades executed by high-ranking personnel in major corporations are no strange occurrence, the 2025 sales are, however, somewhat specific by just how early in the year they arrived.

The most recent Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) stock sale – executed on January 6 and reported on January 8 – is, nonetheless, a standout as it was made at the highest average price of any NVDA shares insider trade on record.

Is this the most suspicious Nvidia insider trade to date?

Specifically, Finbold’s insider trades tracker detected that Ajay K. Puri, the semiconductor giant’s executive vice president of Worldwide Field Operations, offloaded 36,695 NVDA shares at an average price of $151.10.

The sale was, in fact, executed near the stock’s absolute all-time high (ATH) and above the highest-ever closing price of $149.43, recorded on January 6, 2025.

The trade, which raised approximately $5.5 million, becomes even more remarkable once the fact that Puri, unlike many other senior officers at Nvidia, is not a particularly prolific trader.

Jensen Huang, the company’s CEO, for example, regularly trades the chipmaker’s stock following a predictable pattern. Between July and September, he reported as many as 14 sales, each of exactly 240,000 shares, raising well of $200 million.

Puri, on the other hand, offloaded NVDA shares only one other time in July 2024, when he sold 100,110 shares at an average price of $130.10 for a total of $13 million. He made no similar trades through the entirety of 2023.

Does Nvidia’s vice president always sell at NVDA stock price highs?

The executive vice president’s stock market activity becomes even more interesting when Nvidia stock price performance is considered. NVDA shares had two roughly equal tops in June and July as they twice crossed above the $130 threshold.

While Puri’s summer sale did not come exactly at the period’s peak, it was executed above $130. Similarly, looking at 2025 performance, he sold almost exactly as the year’s high since NVDA stock experienced its biggest daily drop in 5 months soon after.

Furthemore, by press time on January 14, Nvidia shares are 10.47% below Puri’s latest sale average price, and the current trend is downward, as their latest close was in the red.
