The next season of Warzone 2 and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II is almost here and with it new multiplayer maps, Gunfight mode, a new Battle Pass, Plunder mode and more.
Two new Operators are also headed to Warzone 2.0 and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II in Season 3 when it launches next week.
Mexican Special Forces officer Alejandro Vargas (Alain Mesa) and crime boss Valeria Garza (Mari Elisa Camargo) join the growing roster of playable Operators. These were two of my favorite characters from the game’s campaign—once-allies turned enemies by circumstance and the choices each made along the way.
Here’s the trailer:
As you can see, the trailer confirms the release date for Season 3, which is April 12th. The new season will likely go live in the morning around 9 or 10am PT.
I wrote a bit about Alejandro when there was a brief moment of outrage over one of Modern Warfare II’s missions. In the ‘Borderline’ mission, Vargas and one of his men cross the US/Mexico border in pursuit of a terrorist who just crossed over into Texas from Mexico. The ensuing chase sees Vargas and his companion moving through an American neighborhood, at times pointing their guns at civilians to get them to back off. Ignoring the context of the mission entirely, certain clickbait vendors tapped into the cultural moment and suggested this was a police action and glorified police violence when clearly that was not the case at all.
In any case, I’ve been hoping to see both Vargas and the tough-as-nails drug cartel boss Valeria in the multiplayer portion of this game for a while and that’s finally happening in Season 3. I would love to see more maps take place in the Mexico setting as well. A couple multiplayer maps do, as well as a couple of the larger Battle maps, but what I’d really love to see is a really colorful Resurgence map set in Mexico. You could even use the Guijarro map—which is pretty big!—as a Resurgence map. Make it so, Infinity Ward!
I’ll have more information about Season 3 and the return of one of my favorite Call Of Duty modes ever—Gunfight—here on this blog. Stay tuned for more updates all this week.
