Alex Keller was one of the main characters in 2019’s Modern Warfare, and I was a little disappointed that he didn’t return in the campaign for Modern Warfare II, though I’m hoping we see him again in whatever game launches in 2023.
I keep hoping that whatever that game is, it doesn’t entirely replace Modern Warfare II, but just adds a new campaign, new maps and so forth to the game we already have. I’m sure that won’t be the case, but it would be awesome to just double up on MP maps rather than start from ground zero all over again.
In any case, Alex’s fate at the end of Modern Warfare was a big question mark until he was later released as an Operator for that game and Warzone, only with a mechanical leg to replace the one he lost in the big explosion at the end of the campaign. Now he looks like this:
I have favorites when it comes to Modern Warfare. Soap and Captain Price rank very high. So does Nikolai. Gaz and Roach are cool. Ghost is okay. In the newest game, Alejandro was an instant favorite. So was Graves.
Alex was definitely one of my favorite new characters introduced in 2019 (as was Farah, who has made a comeback already) and I’m happy to report that he’s back for Season 3 Reloaded as both a character with story content and an Operator to use in multiplayer and Warzone.
How To Unlock Alex Keller In Modern Warfare II and Warzone
To unlock Alex (outside of the inevitable Store bundle) you must play Raid Episode 3 and win. Alex joins Price and Farah in this latest co-op mission. Here’s the description of the new episode’s story:
After tracking down Alex, Gaz breaks off to establish comms with Laswell and provide exfil. Now Price, Farah, and Alex must push deeper into the Soviet base, descending into a massive pit where they will navigate old train tunnels and electrically charged waters. With Hadir and the missing warhead still on the loose, every minute counts.
Complete Raid Episode 03 to unlock Alex as an Operator, who can be used across Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2.0 online modes. Earn a unique electrified camo by completing Raid Episode 03 on Veteran difficulty. Found in a classified area, another unique weapon camo can be earned during Raid Episode 03.
So that’s how you unlock Alex. Beat the Episode 3 raid! Simple, right?
WRONG.
“Electrically charged waters” makes me cringe with despair. I finished the first raid with some friends and we almost rage-quit several times. There was a section of that raid where you have to decode some numbers, have one player read them off to the other players who have to enter them in timed sequences, all while gas is being pumped into the air and wave after wave of enemies is attacking. If you fail to enter the numbers in time, you have to get new ones. If you die, you have to be revived. If everyone dies, you start back at a checkpoint. It was difficult in a way that was more tedious than fun, and I’m not sure I can do another.
I skipped the second raid altogether, but I really do want the Alex Operator so I may have to try, though convincing my buddies to go through hell with me is another question entirely. Episode 1 was not fun at all. It was too much. I love a good challenge, but juggling codes, gas, enemies, water, timers and bots who can down you with two bullets? Not my cup of tea!
Still, this is how you’ll unlock Alex, meaning it’s only an option for Modern Warfare II players at the moment. Warzone-only players will not be able to unlock him for the time being. I’m sure we’ll see a Store bundle in the not-so-distant future, but free is better. We shall see . . . .
