Despite a relatively muted showing on the main singles chart, “End of the World” does perform well in one key area: sales. The track enters both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts at No. 8. Those strong positions suggest that the singer’s following was eager to own the tune, or at least show support via online purchases.

At the same time, “End of the World” launches on the Official Streaming chart at No. 56, which indicates a far less enthusiastic reception on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and others.

“End of the World” serves as the first proper single from Something Beautiful, and it marks the beginning of the next phase in Cyrus’s career. Before the track dropped, the singer shared both “Prelude” and the title cut “Something Beautiful.” Neither of those tunes were formally pushed as singles, but they were used to stir up excitement about the upcoming full-length.

“End of the World” arrives well over a year after Cyrus’s last album cycle, and the contrast between this beginning and her previous one is stark. In early 2023, she dropped “Flowers” as the lead single from Endless Summer Vacation, and the song became an instant global sensation.
