Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers’ Is Sure To Earn A Record Of The Year Nomination

Miley Cyrus has made a major comeback with her latest hit single, “Flowers.” The singer-songwriter and actress had previously seen her chart performance decline with her rock-focused album, Plastic Hearts, which failed to produce a major hit. Thankfully, with “Flowers,” Cyrus has returned to fine form and this writer predicts that she will receive a nomination for Record of the Year at the upcoming sixty-sixth Grammys.

Record of the Year is one of the most prestigious categories at the Grammy Awards, and it is sometimes regarded as the top prize of the ceremony. The competition for the category is fierce, with only 10 slots available to fill. “Flowers” is likely to receive a nomination, and if it does, it will be Cyrus’ first time being up for the award.

“Flowers” debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 at the beginning of 2023, giving Cyrus her second chart-topper after “Wrecking Ball,” which ruled a decade prior. It is also the longest-running leader so far of this year, which only proves that Cyrus has truly returned to pop star status.

In addition to Record of the Year, “Flowers” may also receive nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Cyrus’ album, Endless Summer Vacation, which features the single, is also eligible for Best Pop Vocal Album and potentially even Album of the Year.

While “Flowers” is expected to receive a nomination for Record of the Year, there are other likely contenders for the category, including Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” SZA’s “Kill Bill,” and Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night.” The nominees for the 2024 Grammys will be unveiled sometime in the fall, with eligibility for the upcoming ceremony running from October 1, 2022, through September 15, 2023.

If Cyrus is nominated for Record of the Year and wins, it will mark her first-ever Grammy. While she has been previously nominated for two trophies—Best Pop Vocal Album for Bangerz and Album of the Year as a featured artist on Lil Nas X’s Montero —she has yet to take home a trophy.
