Metaverse Can Be Indispensable Agin Inner  Psychological Warfares

Either they are school-goers or an employed person in a well-known organization with ample income, mental health issues are taking over a large share of minds globally. Emerging technologies can play an integral role to keep these evils at bay. A report issued by World Economic Forum (WEF) mentions how the metaverse can be used to aid the condition.

Metaverse Peers Could Aid to Mental Health Issues

According to the report dubbed ‘Top 10 Emerging Technologies in 2023,’ the metaverse can prove useful in curing mental health aspects if used responsibly. Although, studies have shown long-enough exposure to relevant technologies could lead to psychological disorders including motion sickness, near-sightedness, delusions and more.

The doc highlights, “The number of mental health providers is insufficient to meet the escalating crisis, and, in the United States, a federal reimbursement opportunity for tele-mental health services is in the works to combat this shortage. Ideally, a mental health centred technology-based infrastructure will support all aspects of mental health: prevention, diagnostics, therapy, education and research.”

Social connections in the metaverse could be of service to cope-up with mental health issues. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), almost a Billion individuals were living with mental disorders in 2019 where anxiety and depression remain the most common afflictions.

Mental health crises increased during COVID-19 lockdowns across the globe. Anxiety and depressive patients rose by almost 25% according to WHO. The WEF paper mentions a ‘mental health-centered tech infrastructure may support all aspects of mental health.’ Furthermore, many companies are already using gaming platforms to treat mental issues.

WEF mentions a few companies including Ninja Theory, TRIPP and DeepWell Therapeutics, developing solutions to cope-up with mental health. It also highlighted ‘Noninvasive neurotechnologies can even provide feedback attuned to a user’s emotional state.’ The paper also points out the possibility of an integration of the metaverse and the mentioned technologies to treat intractable depression.

Majority of People May Adopt Metaverse within 30 Years

Affordability will play an integral role to access these technologies. We may envision a future containing keys to the metaverse—augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and more. But only a handful of people may access them at will. The iPhone maker, Apple, released their mixed reality (MR) headset Vision Pro for a bit dear price tag of $3,499 recently.

However,  global poverty may decline by 2050. A study published by Center of  Global Development (CDG) in March says no country would be classed as low-income. Additionally, potential decrease in AR, VR, MR and more associated tech devices’ price may help boost the metaverse adoption.

A study published in a peer-reviewed journal, Energy and Environmental Science, says nearly 90% of the global population may adopt the metaverse within thirty years. Additionally, social media giant Meta Platforms Inc (formerly Facebook) and Windows maker Microsoft are likely to be the biggest players in the sector.
