Metallica Owns 20% Of A Billboard Chart As A Classic Smash Returns

Metallica has been a fixture on Billboard’s Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart for years by this point. It’s rarer to see the group absent from the ranking than to find it securing another win. The band is responsible for some of the most successful and beloved hard rock cuts in American history, and even decades after many of them first found their way to the charts, the act continues to sell a healthy number of copies week after week.

Metallica Owns 20% of the Chart

This frame, Metallica fills a pair of spots on the tally, as it seems that purchases of the band’s catalog – or at least a few favorites – are growing. The Hard Rock Digital Song Sales ranking only includes 10 slots, so the group lays claim to 20% of the available real estate.

Metallica regains control of the throne as “Enter Sandman” returns to No. 1, stepping up just one space from the runner-up position it sat in last time around. Last week’s champion, “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, dips to third.

“Enter Sandman” has now spent 696 weeks on the chart. Just five of those frames have been in charge.

“Nothing Else Matters” Returns

As “Enter Sandman” climbs, “Nothing Else Matters” returns. This week, it breaks back onto the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally at No. 8. In the past, it’s climbed as high as No. 4, and the track is nearing triple-digit frames on the roster.

Metallica Joins 3 Doors Down

With both “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters” present, Metallica becomes just the second act to fill more than one spot on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart this frame. The band joins 3 Doors Down, which claims a trio of positions, one right after the other. The group’s music has experienced a surge in popularity following its lead singer’s recent cancer diagnosis, which has increased support from longtime fans.

This week, 3 Doors Down appears highest with “When I’m Gone,” which reenters the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tally at No. 4, which is the cut’s all-time high. “It’s Not My Time” jumps to its peak at No. 5, while former No. 1 “Kryptonite” dips one space to No. 6.
