Meta Employees Joining Blind Following the Mass Layoffs Announcement

Meta employees are going on to join Blind—an anonymous professional network. This is inferred as to come in the wake of recent heavy cut down in its workforce by the company. The numbers are said to be in thousands, which given the number of staff from a single firm, quite a big number.

Co-founder and Chief Business Officer of Blind, Kyum Kim was reported to inform that prior to Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement of laying off 11,000 employees, about 3,000 employees from Meta joined the platform.

Mistiming led to Meta Layoffs

Earlier this month, Meta CEO said that the company is considering reducing about 11,000 employees. The massive number accounts for about 13% of its entire workforce. He cited his miscalculation of timing regarding the big investment flocking towards the company.

In a blog post, Zuckerberg said that he wanted to be held responsible for those decisions and for the reasons how the company got into the situation. He agreed the situation was tough and apologized to the people affected.

The lay-offs were not only limited to Meta only, rather, it also included its metaverse projects’ division housing—Reality Labs. The teams said most likely to take the worst hit of the decision were the recruiting team and several others.

Meta Employees Turned (towards) “Blind”

The South Korean company is reported signing up over 64,000 employees belonging to Meta. It accounts for more than 75% of the entire workforce of the social media company. Moreover, the intensity of employees joining the anonymous professional network increased recently as over 7,000 people from Meta staff joined the platform in the last two weeks itself.

Blind CFO considered this as a mind-blowing event as the platform has witnessed an elevated usage recently.

Founded in 2013 in South Korea, Blind is a platform that enables an anonymous space and community of verified employees across different firms to discuss their issues. Although the users only allowed to put up their review for the company they employed at.

Around the time of Zuckerberg’s Meta layoffs announcement, about 44 reviews were posted over Blind’s platform from the Meta employees. These reviews consisted mostly of hitting out reviews on Meta CEO, with several positive ones too.

The app ensures that the users’ hold a professional status while joining the platform by asking for details like work email address, their job title and about their company.

Blind like Platforms Helping Beleaguered Employees

Given the vulnerable situations within the job market, Blind like platforms become crucial for the employees. Blind CBO said that employees are up to find new jobs despite not getting laid off. This is clearly given the fact that tech space does not seem to be a safe haven anymore. Currently, the trust over the companies is witnessing its all-time low.
