Messi And Suarez Set For Inter Miami Reunion in 2024: Reports

Former FC Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are set to be reunited in 2024, with the Uruguayan scheduled to join Inter Miami according to Argentine journalist Cesar Luis Merlo and El Pais.

Forming the famed ‘MSN’ trident with Neymar, Messi and Suarez scored goals for fun in Catalonia and won a number of trophies including the treble under Luis Enrique in their first term together.

The close friends were separated when Suarez was offloaded to Atletico Madrid for a cut fee before the 2020/2021 season.

By its close, ‘El Pistolero’ had the last laugh with Atleti winning the La Liga title at Barca’s expense.

Later that summer, Messi’s contract expired at Camp Nou resulting in him walking to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

In 2023, when again approaching free agency, Messi snubbed Barca by opting to head over the Atlantic to Inter Miami.

Ex-Barca locker room comrades Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets also donned Blaugrana for the last time, and boosted the MLS franchise’s squad in quick succession.

There were rumors that Suarez would also take the plunge to the US, but these proved to be unfounded as his Brazilian employers Gremio wanted the 36-year-old to honor his commitment to them.

With Suarez’s Gremio deal close to winding down, however, Cesar Luis Melo and El Pais have reported that Suarez will see out the rest of 2023 with the Porto Alegre outfit and then join Inter Miami in 2024.

In Fort Lauderdale, Suarez will initially pen a one-year contract which could later be extended.

If he can replicate anything close to the form that he and Messi demonstrated on a regular basis in Spain, David Beckham and Jorge Mas will be more than keen to tie Suarez down for longer.

Suarez has faced knee trouble in recent history which could affect his long-term plans. At present, however, he is going through a good moment while on the verge of being recalled to the Uruguay national team by charismatic head coach Marcelo Bielsa.
