Mbappe Tells PSG He Will Not Renew Deal, Given Sign Or Sell Ultimatum

French football superstar Kylian Mbappe has sent Paris Saint-Germain an official letter confirming he has no intention to renew his contract in 2024, according to L’Equipe.

In response, the Qatari-backed giants have informed the 24-year-old that he must agree to fresh terms or will be sold this summer which will put potential suitors such as Real Madrid and Liverpool on high alert.

Mbappe memorably played the lead part in 2022’s biggest transfer market saga when his five-year PSG deal signed upon joining from Monaco in 2017 was close to expiry.

The Russia 2018 World Cup champion seemed all set for the Bernabeu, but at the last minute performed a dramatic U-turn and put pen to paper with the Parisians again after apparent pressure from the Qatari state and French president Emmanuel Macron.

The lucrative renewal helped Mbappe top Forbes’ list of the World’s Highest-Paid Soccer Players last year and finish third in the most recent edition of the World’s Highest-Paid Athletes with on-field earnings of $100 million.

Just over a year since being paraded at the Parc des Princes with an ‘Mbappe 2025’ jersey alongside the club’s chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, though, the forward could be moving on to pastures new.

The number on that shirt was misleading given that Mbappe’s actual deal only runs until 2024 with the option to renew for an additional, extra year if he wishes.

Rather than wait until the end of next season, however, an unhappy Mbappe has informed PSG that he will not renew his deal.

“Surprised” and made “tired” by the player’s decision, PSG have then told Mbappe to extend his agreement with them or be sold before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Ligue 1 champions’ new stance with Mbappe is much tougher than the last time his terms were expiring.

In August 2021 around 10 months until he would become a free agent, PSG knocked back a €160 million ($172 million) offer from Madrid for their poster boy according to several outlets ahead of then tying him down for another two terms the following spring.

It now remains to be seen if Los Blancos will come in for Mbappe again, or if their president Florentino Perez is still bitter about being ditched twice at the altar by the future Ballon d’Or candidate in 2017 – when he joined PSG from Monaco – and in 2022 when he looked set to head to La Liga only to change his mind at the last minute.

Liverpool have also had registered interest in Mbappe previously, and other Premier
PINC
League giants could throw their hats into the ring.

Elsewhere in Spain, Real Madrid’s bitter rivals FC Barcelona have been less strongly linked to Mbappe by SPORT in the past but would have to wait for him to become a free agent before even contemplating whether they could afford his salary amid well-documented financial difficulties.
