Mavs Gaming is set to begin its sixth season in the NBA 2K League. The team finalized its five-person roster for 3v3 and 5v5 competitions during the 2023 NBA 2K League Draft on Friday night.
Needing to fill two roster spots, Mavs Gaming selected center Ludlow “Glo” Samuels and power forward Kwan “followTHEGOD” Niblack in the second and third rounds, respectively.
“With my first draft as head coach, I wanted to make a splash,” Mavs Gaming head coach Ryan Conger said in a statement. “Glo, who we believe is the best center in the draft, contributes a successful veteran mindset and leadership. FollowTHEGOD fits in perfectly with our current roster, bringing his experience and positional flexibility.”
Conger, a Dallas-area native, enters his first season as Mavs Gaming’s head coach. The former NBA 2K League player spent his rookie season with the team before moving on to Wizards District Gaming, where he led the team to the 2022 NBA 2KL 5v5 Finals and won the 2022 NBA 2KL 3v3 Championship.
Conger was also the 2022 NBA 2K League Most Valuable Player and named the 2022 NBA 2KL Defensive Player of the Year.
“We are extremely excited to bring Ryan back home to be the next head coach of Mavs Gaming,” senior director of Mavs Gaming Brad Freeman said in a release after hiring Conger. “Ryan has established himself as one of the best NBA 2K League players in the world. He is the right person to take Mavs Gaming to the next level and help us bring a championship to Dallas.”
Rounding out the new additions to the roster is shooting guard Reid “Reizey” Hill, who the team traded for during the offseason. Hill, Samuels and Niblack join point guard Kenneth “Kenny Zeus” Strombeck and small forward Jeri “Jarsity” Pena. Mavs Gaming retained both players from last season.
Mavs Gaming begins its season on March 8 with THE SLAM OPEN 3v3 Tournament. All of Mavs Gamings’ games will be broadcast on the team’s Twitch account.
