The official summary for Thunderbolts* reads, “Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova (Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Stan), Red Guardian (Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell).

“After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss), these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”

Disney+ announced on YouTube Thursday that Thunderbolts* will begin streaming on the platform on Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Disney+ offers an ad-based Disney+ Basic plan for $9.99 per month, as well as an ad-free Disney+ Premium plan for $15.99 per month or $159.99 per year.

In addition, Disney+ is also available in a bundling package with Hulu and Max for $16.99 per month with ads and $29.99 per month without ads.

‘Thunderbolts*’ Star Loves How Story Gives Antiheroes A Second Chance

Thunderbolts* brings a different spin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in that, instead of any members of the superhero team, The Avengers, saving the day, it’s the group of infamous antiheroes who are given the task. Ultimately, that means the previous MCU villains are given a shot at redemption.

“What this movie does is it forces us not to just to be a team, but gives the ability look at ourselves and ask for forgiveness so we can actually dream bigger than what we thought we could … that the idea of being a hero isn’t so ridiculous,” Hannah John-Kamen — who played Ant-Man’s nemesis, Ghost, in Ant-Man and the Wasp — said in a Zoom conversation prior to the release of the film in theaters in May.

“We’ve been trained into a routine to think that we don’t deserve it otherwise,” John-Kamen added. “I think this movie gives us so more depth for our characters and so much more of a journey to go on.”

Thunderbolts* recently wrapped up its theatrical run and is currently available on PVOD. Rated PG-13, Thunderbolts* begins streaming on Disney+ on Aug. 27.
