Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, starring Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbor, is coming soon to digital streaming.
Rated PG-13, Thunderbolts* opened in theaters on May 2. The official summary for the film reads, “Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova (Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Stan), Red Guardian (Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell).
“After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss), these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it’s too late?”
Directed by Jake Scheier, Thunderbolts* also stars Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer and Wendell Pierce.
Thunderbolts*, aka The New Avengers, will be released on digital streaming via premium on demand on Tuesday, July 1, Marvel announced in YouTube trailer Wednesday.
The film will be available to purchase on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube for $29.99. Since PVOD rentals are $5 less than purchases, viewers can expect to rent the film for $24.99 for 48 hours.
How Did Audiences And Critics Receive Thunderbolts*?
Thunderbolts* has earned nearly $188.7 million in North American ticket sales and $191 million internationally for a worldwide box office gross of $379.7 million against a production budget of $180 million before prints and advertising costs, per The Numbers.
Thunderbolts* earned an 88% “fresh” rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 345 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus reads, “Assembling a ragtag band of underdogs with Florence Pugh as their magnetic standout, Thunderbolts* refreshingly returns to the tried-and-true blueprint of the MCU’s best adventures.”
The film also earned a 93% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 10,000-plus viewer ratings. The RT audience summary for the film reads, “With a team that can raise glory, Thunderbolts* is massively entertaining and delivers everything we love out of a Marvel outing. *The New Avengers.”
Thunderbolts* will be released on digital streaming on July 1.
