Mark Zuckerberg’s MMA Trainer Talks Potential Fight With Elon Musk

Khai Wu, a 27-year-old mixed martial artist and trainer, whose clients include Facebook and Instagram owner Mark Zuckerberg sat down with me to discuss his budding MMA career, signing with Professional Fighters League and to share his thoughts on a potential cage fight between Zuckerberg and Tesla and Twitter owner Elon Musk.

On June 21, Musk grabbed headlines by challenging Zuckerberg to a “cage match.” Zuckerberg quickly accepted the challenge, saying “send me a location.”

Are the two billionaires serious? According to UFC President Dana White, they “are absolutely dead serious” about fighting.

If this fight did take place, who would win? The mystery is the most intriguing part of the concept, and few–if anyone–would know more about Zuckerberg’s fighting skills than Wu. Here is a video Zuckerberg posted on his IG account, working out with Wu.

I wanted a professional’s opinion and the perspective of someone who would have firsthand knowledge of Zuckerberg’s skills to answer one simple question, ‘is he going to smash Elon Musk if they climb in a cage?’

“My job is a trainer,” Wu said. “I just go and train. I can only speak on how hard he [Zuckerberg] works. He [Zuckerberg] works really hard. He’s a really nice guy to be honest with you. I’m not sure how the fight will play out, so I don’t want to speculate, but I’m like you, I’m like ‘how crazy is this?’”

While Wu didn’t want to give a specific prediction on the potential fight between Zuckerberg and Musk, he did further compliment his client’s approach.

“The mindset here is important,” Wu said. “I think a lot of people who are successful like him [Zuckerberg] tend to just go , ‘I know it all,’ you know, but he’s still like student, white belt, shows up, trains hard, puts in the effort, and like wants to learn, you know. He’s a student of the game. I wouldn’t be surprised if he became an athlete or competed at a higher level in some sort of athletic sport. Because he really is a student of the game that’s, how I describe him.”

Wu has his own fight plans ahead of him. PFL has signed him to bolster its bantamweight division.

Wu has a 7-4 record as a pro, and he has competed all over the world including a couple of fights with Bellator.

Wu doesn’t have an agreement in place for his first fight with PFL, but he told me he has already started to prepare mentally for the first time he climbs into the Smart Cage.

Wu seems grateful and happy to have a client like Zuckerberg. However, it also seems he’d love for more fight fans to recognize him for what he’s capable of in the cage and not just who he trains.
