Marcus Rashford And Phil Foden Must Start For England Against Wales

After England’s scoreless draw against USA, fans of the Three Lions have called for Gareth Southgate to change the team ahead of their final group game against Wales.

Mason Mount has not had the best start to the tournament, even in England’s thrashing win over Iran during their first game. The Chelsea midfielder has been lacklustre at best and has not showcased the qualities he has.

England fans are crying out for Phil Foden, who has only featured for 19 minutes since the tournament began. The Manchester City midfielder has been used sparingly, which makes fans question why he was not brought on at all during England’s frustrating draw.

Foden is a wonderful player who can unlock defences and allow teams to tick. In other nations, Foden would be a critical player that would be playing every minute available to him.

While England do not necessarily need to win against Wales, Southgate will surely want to showcase his attacking intent once more and put a performance together. The Three Lions must top the group to avoid the Netherlands, should they also win their last game, and instead face one of Senegal or Ecuador.

Foden would be a direct replacement for Mount in the space just behind Harry Kane, helping transition in the counter attack and provide another option in midfield.

Another player who has been called for to start against the Welsh is Marcus Rashford. Having scored with his third touch in the opening match, the English winger has been bright in both of his cameo performances so far.

Rashford can operate anywhere across the front three, with his preference coming on the left-hand side. England need runners in-behind Kane, who has looked lethargic and still more than likely to be carrying his knock he picked up against Iran.

The Manchester United forward has returned to his best form this season and is in a purple patch for club and country. Southgate must trust him from the start and allow Rashford to punish the Wales defence and pose a constant threat in front of goal.

England have an immeasurable amount of talent on the bench that Southgate has been reluctant to use until the last 15 minutes of the game. The Three Lions must be on the front foot in this final game and simply take the game to Rob Page’s Wales.
