Manchester United will play Arsenal in New York this summer during their pre-season tour of the United States.
This will be the first time United and Arsenal, who have won the Premier League title 16 times between them, will have faced each other in the country.
The game will be staged on July 22 at MetLife Stadium, which has a capacity of 82,500 and is the home of NFL teams the New York Giants and the New York Jets.
“Manchester United versus Arsenal is one the most famous and anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar and supporters from both clubs understand how big the rivalry between the two sides is,” said the club’s Football Director John Murtough.
“It’s great to be able to bring this match to New York and play in front of what I am sure will be a sell-out crowd.”
“I know Erik and the squad are looking forward to starting their pre-season preparations in New York and utilising the great sporting facilities available to us in the city. We are excited to be returning after such a long wait. There is no better location to kick start the Club’s Tour 23.”
“The plans for pre-season are making good progress, with the match against Manchester United in New York being another important part of our preparations,” Arsenal’s Sporting Director Edu added.
“Playing against strong opposition in a great stadium in front of so many of our supporters in New York will provide Mikel and the squad with a strong test and great experience ahead of the new season.”
The last time United played in the New York area was in July 2011 when they faced the MLS All-Stars at the Red Bull Arena. United triumphed 4-0 with goals from Anderson, Park Ji-sung, Dimitar Berbatov and Danny Welbeck.
The game later this year will be the first of United’s pre-season tour of the United States, before they travel on to meet Wrexham AFC in a sold-out fixture in San Diego on July 25, and then take on Borussia Dortmund in Las Vegas on July 30.
United will play one more game as part of this tour of the United States, which will be announced in the coming weeks.
