Major Moves On The Hot 100

Following the Super Bowl, most of the musicians who headlined the halftime show, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Mary J. Blige, all find their way back to the Hot 100 as interest in their back catalogs (and their new releases) is intensified. At the same time, another one of the members of the most popular pop band on the planet lands on the chart for the first time all on his own.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 15 – Becky G X Karol G – “Mamiii”

The highest-ranking debut on this week’s Hot 100 comes from two of the most successful women in the Latin music space. Becky G and Karol G’s “Mamiii” begins its time on the ranking at No. 15, instantly becoming a huge hit for the talents. In fact, “Mamiii” now marks the loftiest placement thus far for the singers.

No. 20 – Nicki Minaj & Lil Baby – “Bussin”

That powerful pairing of Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby is now two for two on the most important songs chart in America. The rappers debut their new single “Bussin” at No. 20 on the Hot 100, scoring a very lofty start for their latest smash, but not quite as impressive as what they managed recently. The hip-hop powerhouses launched their previous cut “Do We Have A Problem?” at No. 2 on last week’s Hot 100, only missing out on the top spot by the unstoppable “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”

No. 21 – Ed Sheeran – “The Joker and the Queen (ft. Taylor Swift)”

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have now been friends for many years, and in that time, they’ve collaborated on several songs, though all of them have been featured on Swift’s albums. “The Joker and the Queen” marks the first duet between the musicians that is present on one of Sheeran’s full-lengths, and it has turned out to be another hit for the two. Initially a solo cut on his most recent album = (Equals), the reworked version that features his friend has become an international hit, starting at No. 21 on this week’s Hot 100.

No. 23 – Dr. Dre – “Still D.R.E. (ft. Snoop Dogg)”

Following his headlining performance during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Dr. Dre returns to the Hot 100 after years away with not one, but two tracks. “Still D.R.E.” hits a new high of No. 23, while “The Next Episode” returns at No. 37. Snoop Dogg, who joined him on the main stage, is credited as a featured act on both tunes.

Also back on the Hot 100 is Eminem with “Lose Yourself,” which he performed alongside Dre and Dogg. Mary J. Blige, who was included in the festivities as well, launches her new single at No. 83, though she didn’t actually sing it during the telecast.

No. 95 – Jung Kook – “Stay Alive”

Several members of the beloved boy band BTS have now reached the Hot 100 with solo releases, and this week, Jung Kook joins that exclusive club. The musician’s own “Stay Alive” launches at No. 95 on the latest edition of the tally, bringing him to the list for the first time (without his bandmates, at least). As one of the seven performers in the biggest group in the world, Jung Kook has already found himself on the tally more than 20 times, with half a dozen of their tunes rising to the summit.
