Madonna Returns To The Hot 100 After Nearly Eight Years Away

Madonna, still widely regarded as the Queen of Pop, has been a mainstay on the Billboard charts for decades, consistently delivering hit after hit. Sadly though, in recent years, many of her promotional singles have failed to make a commercial impact. Now, the iconic chart-topper is back with a new collaborative track that showcases her talent and secures her return to the ranking in fine form.

The superstar’s new single “Popular” debuts on this week’s Hot 100 chart, earning one of the loftiest openings of the frame. The track features the Grammy-winning artist The Weeknd and rapper Playboi Carti, so this tune is a multi-generational affair.

“Popular” is the second song to be released from the soundtrack of the TV show The Idol. Interestingly, The Weeknd not only stars in the series but also serves as its creator, co-producer, and co-writer. In addition to his involvement in the program, he has also crafted an entire album to accompany the new HBO title, and lately he has been releasing new songs every week.

Madonna’s return to the Hot 100 after an absence of nearly eight years is a significant milestone for the singer. Her last appearance on the competitive chart was back in 2015 when she teamed up with Nicki Minaj for their joint track, “Bitch I’m Madonna,” which peaked at No. 84. Her current win is even more noteworthy, as it marks her highest position in over a decade. Following her headline performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, her single “Give Me All Your Luvin” reached No. 10 on the charts in 2012, largely due to the incredible exposure the event provided.

Although Madonna hasn’t appeared on the Hot 100 in quite some time, she certainly hasn’t been idle. Her last album, Madame X, failed to send any of its tracks to the ranking, but that hasn’t deterred the musical icon from pursuing collaborations with up-and-coming artists. Despite working with several notable acts, none of their joint efforts managed to chart successfully, until now.
