Lynyrd Skynyrd Reaches A Special Milestone For The Very First Time

It’s been more than half a century since Lynyrd Skynyrd released its debut album, Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd), and in that time, the band has gone from rising Southern rock stars to certified icons. While the group doesn’t churn out new music like it once did — the group’s last full-length was released more than a decade ago — that signature sound still resonates with a huge audience. The band’s catalog continues to sell and stream consistently, and that sustained popularity just now pushes the classic rockers to a new milestone.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s All Time Greatest Hits Hits 300 Weeks

These days, it’s not uncommon to find Lynyrd Skynyrd on a handful of Billboard rankings, but it’s almost always with one title. The appropriately-named All Time Greatest Hits has become a mainstay on the charts, thanks to steady streaming and digital consumption of the band’s most recognizable smashes. This frame, the compilation reaches 300 weeks on the Billboard 200, the ranking of the most-consumed albums in the U.S.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Longest-Charting Release By Far

All Time Greatest Hits has been the band’s longest-charting project on the Billboard 200 for some time now, but this latest stay on the tally is still special. The title becomes the first release from Lynyrd Skynyrd to reach 300 weeks on the chart, which is a major milestone for any act — let alone one that hasn’t issued a proper new album in over 10 years.

The group’s other top-performing compilation, The Best Of Lynyrd Skynyrd: 20th Century Masters, is in a fairly distant second place. That set topped out at just 135 weeks on the Billboard 200 — not even half the time logged by its more successful counterpart.

When it comes to traditional studio efforts, the band’s semi-self-titled debut Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced ‘Lĕh-‘nérd ‘Skin-‘nérd) remains the biggest win, though it still hasn’t reached the 100-week mark on the tally.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Continued Billboard Success

All Time Greatest Hits isn’t just visible on the Billboard 200 this week. The compilation also finds space on both the Top Rock Albums and Top Rock & Alternative Albums charts, where it’s still holding relatively steady. This frame, the title dips just one rung on each of those lists, settling at No. 25 and No. 31, respectively. On the Billboard 200, it slips slightly more, down three spots to No. 141.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Compilation is Still Doing Well

According to Luminate, All Time Greatest Hits shifted just over 10,100 equivalent units during the most recent finished tracking frame. That total is made up almost entirely of streaming activity, as the collection failed to sell even 1,000 copies in pure sales.

That’s completely normal for a compilation of this kind, especially one from a band that hasn’t been active in terms of the traditional album cycle for years. The fact that millions continue to stream both the full project and individual tracks keeps the set alive.
