Luka Doncic made history this week. Not only did the Dallas Mavericks superstar become the second-fastest player to reach 50 career triple-doubles, one of his trading cards sold for a record amount in a public auction.
The 2018 National Treasures Luka Doncic Rookie NBA Logoman Patch Auto 1-of-1 card by Panini sold at PWCC Marketplace on Thursday night for a record $3.12 million. It is the largest sale of a basketball card sold at a public auction.
“This is the highest price ever realized for a basketball card sold in a verified public auction,” Vice President of Sales at PWCC Marketplace Jesse Craig said in a release. “When this card went to the block, we purposefully avoided speculation on a price because this was an important moment for the market to decide on the value of Luka’s best trading card.
“The card stood on its own merits, and the market placed it where it belongs. If you include private sales, Luka now sits between the high sales for LeBron and Jordan. The market confirmed Luka is in rare air in terms of collectability with this sale.”
The auction opened on November 3 and closed on November 17. The night before the auction closed, the card’s value was up to $2.3 million, and it had 45 bids on it over the previous two weeks.
The rare card previously changed hands in a private sale in 2021 for a reported $4.6 million. However, the PWCC auction was the first time the public had the opportunity to bid on the card in an open market and organically set its value.
In terms of trading card sales at auction, the sale of the 2018 National Treasures Luka Doncic Rookie NBA Logoman Patch Auto 1-of-1 card places it in rare company.

- It is the third-highest price ever paid for a basketball card in a public auction or reported private sale.
- Luka now holds two of the top three sales numbers for a basketball trading card in both public and private sales. LeBron James is No. 1, and Michael Jordan is No. 4.
