Bayern Munich has agreed to sign Luis Díaz from Liverpool for an $88.1 million fee. The Colombian winger leaves Anfield with a Premier League medal and his head held high.
Díaz Dazzled Liverpool
Díaz dazzled from the very beginning in a Liverpool shirt. The Colombian caught the attention with sensational performances on the international stage and in the Portuguese League with FC Porto. Then, at Anfield, he took his status to the next level.
Not long after he arrived in England, Díaz helped Liverpool to a domestic cup double, and his performance in the League Cup final against Chelsea in particular helped put his name in lights. A ‘Dennis Bergkamp style’ spin in that game left Chelsea defender Reece James for dead and made the whole of Wembley stadium gasp in awe. Fans could clearly see the Latin flair everyone talked about.

During his three and a half seasons at Anfield, Díaz terrorised defences and compiled a highlight reel full of flicks, tricks, and solo dribbles past multiple players. The winger also racked up a tally of 41 goals and 16 assists in 148 appearances for the Merseyside club.
Liverpool Legacy Certified
Luis Díaz won five trophies for Liverpool, including the 2024/25 Premier League title. The 20th league title in the club’s history equalled Manchester United’s record and marked the first time in over 30 years that Liverpool fans could celebrate a title inside the stadium.

Díaz’s 2024/25 campaign was his most prolific in a Liverpool shirt. The Colombian winger played on the left wing and as a central forward, often coming off the bench. Yet, he scored 17 times and made 5 assists over the year. He was a key figure in Liverpool’s title win.
Beyond the trophies, goals, and assists, Luis Díaz became a fan favourite for his flair on the ball, tireless work rate, and commitment off it. Díaz’s attitude was exceptional, and at times what he lacked in front of goal he more than made up for with his pressing and defensive work. Díaz was also menacing on the counter attack and incredibly unselfish.
Luis Díaz’s bond with the club deepened after his father was kidnapped in Colombia for 12 days in late 2023. The whole Liverpool community rallied around the player and his family, and since his father’s release, he has regularly been seen wearing his son’s shirt in the crowd alongside Liverpool fans. Liverpool fans also created a popular anthem just for Díaz with reference to his home town of Barrancas in northern Colombia.

A Hero In Colombia
Díaz is about to become one of the most expensive Colombian signings in history, and at 28 years of age he has plenty of time to write another incredible chapter in his career at Bayern Munich. Díaz is expected to win domestic titles in Germany, and perhaps he can go one better than his Champions League final defeat with Liverpool in 2022.
Díaz also has the FIFA 2026 World Cup in his sights. Colombia is on the cusp of qualifying for what could be Díaz’s first World Cup appearance. This Colombia side has the potential to challenge the world’s top teams at the tournament.
Díaz leaves a lasting legacy at one major European club—and now, he has the chance to build another at Bayern and elevate Colombia at the 2026 World Cup. It’s going to be a huge 2025/26 season for the South American sensation.
