Thor: Love And Thunder is just a few months away. The Chris Hemsworth-led MCU film is once again being helmed by Taika Waititi, the director behind the hilarious Thor: Ragnarök.
Now the film has both a new poster and its very first trailer, which sees our Norse God enjoying his retirement, shedding his Fortnite-and-beer weight, and returning to a life of adventure alongside old friends like Star Lord (Chris Pratt) and Korg (Taika Waititi).
Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) has taken over as the leader of the Asgardian people and appears to be quite bored overseeing their new home, Tønsberg—now known as New Asgard.
But Thor’s retirement plans and life of peace are (of course) thwarted, this time by Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), a villain intent on ridding the universe of all its gods.
Perhaps the biggest moment in the entire trailer is the arrival of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) as a Mjolnir-wielding female Thor. Whether this is the same Jane we knew from Thor’s universe, or a multiverse Jane, remains to be seen (though I’m leaning toward the latter—this phase of the MCU is going big on all things multiverse).
It looks like a cosmic swashbuckling good time. I think I’ve been suffering from a little bit of MCU fatigue (or perhaps just superhero fatigue) but Spider-Man: No Way Home definitely got me more excited for the next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Thor: Love And Thunder will release close on the heels of our next big MCU outing, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. That film releases in just a couple weeks on May 6th. Thor: Love And Thunder lands on July 8th, just two months later.
