Los Angeles Chargers Open Rookie Minicamp With Just One Draftee On The Outside Looking In

The Los Angeles Chargers’ brass will tell you their new kids, fresh from being drafted, are all right.

And, they’re almost all signed to their rookie contracts.

The Chargers kicked off their rookie minicamp with all but one of their recent selections signing his name on the dotted line.

Linebacker Tuli Tuipulotu, a second-round pick, is the lone Charger draftee that remains unsigned.

That the Chargers were able to move so quickly with everyone else, especially first-round pick Quentin Johntson, is a positive.

L.A. has a history of haggling with their top selection, which has caused some to miss all, or a portion, of the offseason workouts.

Johnston, the TCU standout and the 21st overall pick, is here as well as Washington State linebacker Daiyan Henley (No. 85), TCU wide receiver Derius Davis (No. 125), Clemson offensive lineman Jordan McFadden (No. 156), Boise State defensive lineman Scott Matlock (No. 200) and TCU quarterback Max Duggan (No. 239).

Tuipulotu, an All-American pass-rushing demon, is possibly trying to use his leverage to increase his deal, anticipating that he will be a key player in his first year.

The draft’s 54th overall pick paced the nation with 13.5 sacks last season while at the University of Southern California and he has two decorated veteran starters ahead of him in Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.

While Mack was productive with a team-high eight sacks last year, he’s also entering his 10th NFL season at age 32.

Bosa, who turns 28 during the season, was limited to just four starts in 2022 because of injuries.
