Logan Paul, Greatest Celebrity Wrestler Ever, Loses To Rollins

Seth Rollins beat Logan Paul with a Stomp in a highly entertaining showdown at WrestleMania 39.

Logan Paul descended from the rafters of SoFi Stadium to a loud enclave of boos, accompanied by a Prime Hydration mascot, who turned out to be KSI, while Seth Rollins received an entrance with a theater director conducting the 66,000-plus in attendance. In a fantastic spot, Logan Paul accidentally hit a frog splash on the Prime Mascot through the table.

WrestleMania 39 weekend saw Andy Kaufman inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. Suffice to say, not only has Logan Paul carried on Kaufman’s legacy as a celebrity wrestler, he’s surpassed it.

Similar to iconoclast combat sports athletes like Floyd Mayweather, Chael Sonnen, Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey and even Muhammad Ali, Paul successfully borrowed from the pro wrestling formula to make himself a marketable fighter in the world of boxing. So it comes as no surprise that Paul made such a smooth transition to WWE. The fact that Paul is such a great wrestler, however, has been a revelation.

When it comes to the prototypical celebrity wrestler, Paul is a five-tool player. In fact, Paul represents an evolution wrestling celebrity since he’s also a super athlete capable of stunts no celebrity has dared to try. Paul’s iconic Royal Rumble double-springboard with Ricochet is already a fixture in WWE lore. Few, if any, other celebrity wrestlers in history can match Paul’s athletic ability, and more importantly, Paul is a polarizing mainstream personality whom WWE fans love to hate.

Far from a storyline-driven celebrity who is protected in the ring, Paul’s matches are often better than his promos and antics leading up to them, and that’s clearing a high bar.

Paul is now 2-2 as a celebrity wrestler. WWE would be wise to build on Paul’s part-time career with more wins and eventually a championship in WWE. Whenever the time is right, a heel world championship run would garner the type of mainstream press WWE salivates over.

As for Seth Rollins, Rollins remains one of the most popular babyfaces in WWE after willing himself back from the dead following an ill-fated feud against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. Rollins’ theme music has carried him out of the darkness and into the light atop the WWE roster, though he may find himself on the outside looking in as a world title contender if Cody Rhodes successfully finishes the story. Not only is Rollins now a fellow babyface since Rhodes’ return, Rollins has already lost three times in a row to Rhodes.

It’s difficult to imagine WWE booking Rollins anywhere near Rhodes early on in Cody’s title reign since this would project to be a fourth consecutive loss to the American Nightmare.

Thankfully, with his status unquestioned as a current and future top star, Rollins does not need a world championship. Until his time in the world title picture comes once again, Rollins will continue to serve as a high-value utility player in WWE. One who should continue to hover around the main event picture after beating Logan Paul at WrestleMania.
